Grenfell Tower vigil

Members of Protest in Harmony gathered at The Mound in Edinburgh on 14 June 2024, for a vigil marking seven years since the terrible fire in London’s Grenfell tower resulted in the deaths of 72 people, including children.

We sang two songs at a rally before the vigil. Led by John Ireson and Ian Davies, we sang What is Peace to You. The words of that song are:

What is peace to you?
We are calling compassion for all.
'Cos everybody got a right to a safe home.

We also sang Think of Me:

Think of me, forget me not;
remember me wherever you go;
I am yours and you are mine;
remember me wherever you go.

The rally was organised by Edinburgh Trades Union Council, with short speeches from representatives from the Fire Brigades Union, Living Rent and Edinburgh TUC, to commemorate all who died, to call for justice for the Grenfell survivors and families, and for safe housing for everyone.

Grenfell Tower vigil

This was followed by a 30-minute vigil on Princes Street, where people held placards to commemorate all 72 people who died.
